In October of 2019, Archbishop Etienne gave the following guidance:

“After much prayer, I have decided in consultation with the Presbyteral Council (i.e., an advisory council of Priests) that the normal age of Confirmation in the Archdiocese of Seattle will now be changed from eleventh grade or sixteen years old to seventh grade or the equivalent age.”

Several of the reasons for this action were the desire that our youth receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit as they transitioned through adolescence into adulthood, and have the opportunity to exercise the graces of Confirmation through meaningful Christian ministry during their high school years.

Parishes have been asked to progressively lower the age of final preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation and be aligned with the new guidelines no later than 2023. The Archdiocese also continues to ask that those preparing for the sacrament have a “good grasp” of the faith and be active in the parish prior to coming into the final stages of formation for receiving the sacrament. Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation will continue to be a two-year journey.

To help our grade 6- 12 students through this transition and be assured of their readiness to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, for the Academic Year of 2020-2021, Confirmation preparation will be offered to all students in grade 6-12 using the following guidance:

Classes and Curriculum 2020-2021:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, classes this year will be a blend of on-line assignments, mixed with group Zoom meetings. Our hope is that by taking this action, we will continue to provide quality faith formation experiences while helping to minimize added stress to parents and students, as well as help to mitigate the spread of the virus. The 2020-2021 calendar will be ‘mirroring’ a similar schedule to what we have had for the last several years. (Beginning late September through the first week in May.)

The Confirmation preparation process will continue to be a faith journey, involving the candidates, parents, sponsors and the community at large through discussions, reflections and prayer, activities, liturgical events, service, and sharing, in order to assist the students ability to assimilate their life with Christ, the Church and the world.

Parent Meeting:

There will be a parent meeting, prior to classes beginning for this coming academic year. More explanation, including the schedule/calendar, expectations of participants, parents and sponsors will be given.  We will also have time to answer any questions and/or concerns you may have.

Should you or your student have any questions or concerns at this time, please feel free to contact Valerie Winston Healy at .

The sacrament of Confirmation is, with Baptism and Eucharist, one of the three sacraments of initiation. Confirmation completes and "confirms" the grace of Baptism. Through the anointing with the sacred chrism the baptized person is "enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit," and more than ever "obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed" (Catechism 1285). Youth Confirmation preparation is a two year process. Our Confirmation preparation process begins every other year. If you have questions or would like to register, please contact Valerie Winston Healy at or 360-886-2229 x222.

Our faith formation approach uses individual and group actvities & experiences, prayer, games, social activities and service to others to aid us as we grow together exploring the richness of the Catholic faith. We are a group of youth and adult leaders who actively learn and laugh throughout the year encountering God, Jesus and the Church. We practice what we believe, learn why we believe it and gain understanding of how it helps us navigate our everyday lives. If you have questions or would like to register, contact Valerie Winston Healy at or 360-886-2229 x222.
