Local and World MissionsFor many years St. Barbara Parish has been committed to mission activity. Many parishioners actively assist in local community food banks, senior centers, scouting, AA and other similar programs. Rather than duplicate on the parish level efforts that are already taking place in the community, parish members bring the special St. Barbara experience to endeavors that are already out there. But the mission activity does not stop with active involvement. The parish pocket book is fully invested in mission effort as well. Each month a given portion of the Sunday offering is used to make grants to Catholic Community Services in Kent, Washington, King County Habitat for Humanity, the Maple Valley Food Bank and Friends of The Orphans in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Parishioners always know what Sunday part of our offering will go to these three concerns. On a national and international level, St. Barbara Parish joins thousands of Catholic parishes throughout the United States in supporting mission activity both in the United States and in lands around the world. The American Bishops Campaign for Human Development and the American Bishops Overseas Appeal, along with Mission Sunday are all cherished endeavors at St. Barbara Parish. The Sunday Bulletin even publishes stories of how our donations, linked to those of the other parishes, have helped change lives around the world where people do not have the benefits so many of us enjoy. The money gifts of many parishioners become a way that love gets extended beyond our parish borders. |
