Invitation
The most popular adult education offering at St. Barbara Parish is the
annual Invitation Class. Each year, starting right after Easter, an invitation is issued
again and again to enter into the journey we call Life in Christ. Ostensibly, Invitation Class is
St. Barbara's annual rendition of the RCIA - the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The
exciting class is now lead by Valerie Winston Healy, Pastoral Associate.
Invitation Class is open to people who have never been baptized and to those who are
already Christians in another faith tradition but who want to take a serious look at
Catholic Christianity. To the great joy of many St. Barbara parishioners, Invitation Class
is also a welcoming time when "regular Catholics" can also purposefully take a
systematic look at our wonderful Catholic faith. For everyone who accepts the invitation,
the class becomes a journey into the love of Jesus and the life of the community we call
the Church.
Invitation Class starts with the search for meaning. Then, through a series of lively
discussions and highly spiritual talks, class participants discover (or rediscover) God,
Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Revelation (the Holy Bible) and the ancient yet ever new
community of faith that lives the Catholic tradition are soon brought into what gives the
journey meaning that is rich beyond the imagining.
